1 dress 365 days

November 10, 2009

I have often thought I could go a whole year only wearing dresses. Aside from jeans, I’m not very enthusiastic about pants in general, and dresses are a great way to look put together without much effort. But ONE dress everyday all year? Now that shows commitment. It’s called the Uniform Project and it is about bringing awareness to sustainable fashion and raising money for India’s poorest schools via the Akanksha Foundation.

Aside from being a great cause with an interesting concept, the girl knows how to accessorize!

Crocheted stones

I recently happened upon Resurrection fern, a lovely nature inspired blog. The crocheted stones boggle my mind. I don’t understand how someone could crochet something so intricate and form fitting that its not removable. Her photos of organized foliage remind me of one of my favorite artists, Andy Goldsworthy. Boy, I need a walk in the woods.

Buy her photos and crafts here.

Where the wild things are

October 14, 2009

12 days since my last post. Egads! I have no good excuse other than I have just fallen out of the habit. I hope not to go that long without a peep ever again.

(I have also been very busy jewelry making, you can peruse the fruits of my labor here.)

I have to say, falling out of touch with your blog is a bit like letting to much time pass among friends. I miss you blog, and now there’s the awkward part where I wonder what I should say next… um. Hey, aren’t you looking forward to that “Where the wild things are” movie. Looks awesome right?

I came across a “make your own wild things fort” contest and I’m in love.

Great excuse to relive one of my favorite childhood activities!

Peach tart

September 17, 2009

peach pieces

peaches and cream

One of that saddest parts of summer coming to a close is bidding goodbye to peaches. They are my all time favorite fruit, and though you can eat them year round, who would want to when the flavor they pack in June and July is so astoundingly good?

I came across this recipe for a no-bake peaches and cream tart with a ginger snap crust and fell in love. The blogger who thought it up had a few kitchen snafus which in my book only makes me want to try it out more.

PEACH CREME WITH GINGERSNAP CRUST // The science of this pie, is that the lemon reacts with the milk products to help the filling firm up. So be sure to give it ample time to do it’s thing before serving.

The Crust //
10 oz. Gingersnap Cookies
3 Tbsp. Butter

The Filling//
1 14 oz. Can Organic Sweetened Condensed Milk, lowfat optional
½ Cup Crème Fraiche
¼ Cup Fresh Lemon Juice
1 tbsp. Cinnamon
1 ¼ Cup Ripe Peaches, Peeled and Diced

1. In a food processor, grind the gingersnap cookies. Add the butter and pulse to combine.
2. Press the cookie mixture evenly into the sides and bottom of a 9’’ glass pie pan. Pop this in the freezer while preparing the filling.
3. In a bowl, whisk the condensed milk, crème fraiche, lemon juice, and cinnamon together. Give the peach pieces a good squeeze in your fist to crush them up a bit, and add to the cream mixture. Whisk together. Add the filling to the chilled cookie crust.
4. Let the pie firm up in the fridge for at LEAST 4 hours. We put ours in the freezer, and then let it sit for a bit before serving.

bjorn

A friend sent me this pic of a chipped heart on her door stoop and it is so perfect its really remarkable. The adorable chubby hand just makes it that much better. I want to gobble it up.

Then a whole 200 miles away I was angrily walking home from the subway and came across this little guy.

Not as perfect but similar.

Geeez we should have a combined photo blog or something…

Peonies

April 17, 2009

Peonies

I was just thinking how excited I am to get a big bunch of peonies, now that its spring and all (well according to tomorrows forecast only).  Then I happened on this lovely blog Peonies and Polaroids. Two of my favorite things! Just goes to show you that if you like something, somebody somewhere has probably dedicated an entire blog to it. Case in point, my fave twitter pal: Wierd News.
